Choosing the Right Plant Stand
![]() |
A beautiful plant adds a touch of life to any home decor. Choosing the right plant stands for your foliage will contribute to the beauty of your plants and your home. |
First, the stand needs to enhance the beauty of the plant, not detract or compete with it. With the wide variety of choices available today in pedestals, there's no reason you can't create a "plant-scape" that wows visitors and guests not with just your greenery, but with your pedestals as well.
One consideration is the type of plant your plant stand will support. The size needs to be proportionate to the plant itself. You might think twice about placing a small ornamental cactus on a tall, wrought-iron base. But such a pedestal would be perfect for a flowing fern.
Color is also important. If you're going to display a beautiful flowering plant, then be sure to keep the color of the blooms in mind. It's important in that case to select a plant stand that's neutral or complementary in color.
Another factor to keep in mind is stability. Most plant stands will remain upright on a solid, level floor without any problems. If the plant you intend to display is heavy or large, be sure to get a stand that will support the weight and be appropriate for the type of flooring you have. For example, a lightweight pedestal might not be appropriate for a floor covered with deep, plush carpeting. This kind of base may be perfectly fine for a hardwood floor, however.
Size is an important factor. Make sure the top of the stand is large enough to allow room for your plant's container. The container shouldn't take up the entire top of the stand. There needs to be a lip of at least two or three inches around the entire base of the container. This will also help keep your stand stable.
Lastly, don't forget to choose one that accentuates your own personal style!
